The Alchemy of Remodelling

At Any Other Kingdom, we believe that jewellery carries history, emotion, and spirit. Sometimes, however, those stories are tucked away in a jewellery box, unworn and waiting for a new chapter.

Remodelling is the art of circularity. We take your inherited gold and cherished gemstones and, through traditional hand-fabrication, transform them into a piece that reflects your modern life while preserving the soul of the original.

From Heirloom to Handcrafted

THE ASSESSMENT

Every journey begins with a consultation in my Glasgow studio or via a video call online. I will carefully examine your jewellery to assess the purity of the metal and the integrity of the gemstones.

While diamonds, sapphires, and rubies are often excellent candidates for resetting, more delicate stones like opals or pearls may not be suitable for the remodelling process.

DESIGN AND COLLABORATION

Once we’ve confirmed the materials are suitable, the creative collaboration begins. Inspired by your history and my "perfectly imperfect" aesthetic, I will create 3–4 hand-drawn concept sketches. Together, we’ll refine these until we find the design that speaks to you.

THE TRANSFORMATION

The magic happens at the bench. I will melt down your original gold into a new ingot, which is then hand-worked into wire or sheet. Your gemstones are cleaned and meticulously reset into their new home. This is a slow, traditional process that ensures your own gold is physically part of the new creation.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

Remodelling is a deeply rewarding process, and one that is good for the planet. But, because we are working with materials of various ages and conditions, there are a few things to keep in mind:

The Nature of Stones: Removing gemstones from old settings carries inherent risks. While I take the utmost care, stones can occasionally chip or fracture during the process. Remodelling is undertaken at the customer's own risk.

Metal Purity: To ensure the structural integrity of your new piece, we must verify the hallmark of your gold. On occasion, we may need to add a small amount of fresh recycled gold to ensure the casting or fabrication is successful.

Timeline: Because of the technical complexity of deconstructing and refining old materials, remodelling projects typically carry a minimum timeframe of 12+ weeks.
