Transforming Your Old Treasures Into New Creations
What is Jewellery Remodelling?
Jewellery remodelling, or jewellery redesign, is the process of taking an existing piece—whether it’s a ring, necklace, or bracelet—and transforming it into something new. Instead of letting old jewellery sit in a box collecting dust, remodelling gives you the opportunity to create a piece that fits your current style, needs, and taste.
This process involves melting down old metal, resetting gemstones, and reimagining the design, whether it’s for a new look or a sentimental connection to the original piece.
So, if you’ve been wondering, “What can I do with my old jewellery?” the answer could be to remodel it into something beautiful and meaningful.
What does a remodel look like?
Here are some images of a recent remodel, my client arrived with the gold from the bottom left which we worked together to make into this beautiful ring she would wear everyday. The original rings weren't her style - having gotten them from her grandma. So we repurposed the stones, added some more stones and wrapped all her heirloom gold up in a beautifully modern and quirky signet ring.
How Does Jewellery Remodelling Work?
The process of jewellery remodelling is more than just a simple fix; it’s an artistic journey that involves thoughtful planning and craftsmanship. Here’s how it works at AOK:
Initial Consultation & Design The first step is understanding what you have and what you want. Whether you’re looking to remodel an engagement ring or redesign a wedding ring, it all starts with your vision. We can meet either online or at my studio in Glasgow. During this intitual meeting I will take the time to listen to your ideas and sketch out a design that will breathe new life into your old piece.
Determining the Metal Value Before any work begins, I will assess the value of the materials in the piece, especially the metal. When working with gold or silver jewellery remodelling, understanding the metal’s value is crucial. Knowing the purity or karat means that if more metal is required to make the remodel I know what I need to source. Equally if less metal is needed for the remodel I can calculate you a price to buy the left over metal as scrap. At the end of the day this process allows you to make the most out of what you already own.
Up-cycling Your Jewellery
Once the design is confirmed, the next step is to melt down the existing gold, silver and transform them into a new shape that we have built together.
Re-setting Stones & Final Adjustments If your remodelled piece includes gemstones, they will be carefully removed, cleaned, and reset in their new design. If you wish to add new gemstones or change the colours all of this can be discussed during the consultation.
Whether it’s a remodelling old jewellery piece or remodelling an engagement ring, every detail will be meticulously thought through to ensure the end result is perfect.
Collection After 4-6 weeks your remodelled jewellery will be ready for collection / delivery.
